Project Cargo

Capacity that leads, not just follows. Built for specialist construction and installation risks, from single-site placements to complex, phased infrastructure projects. Recognised by brokers for technical consistency, underwriting confidence, and sector insight.

Why choose RSA for Project Cargo insurance?

Underwriting insight and technical oversight — all in-house

We combine technical insight with underwriting authority to deliver end-to-end oversight all in-house. That means deeper understanding of risks, more tailored cover, and faster sign off. Our approach brings engineering rigour to decision-making and can help reduce additional marine warranty surveyor costs.

Industry-leading capacity

You bring the big risks. We bring the capacity. Through our BUILD consortium with BRIT, we offer up to $300 million in capacity - and can deploy up to 100% on suitable risks - making it one of the largest providers in the market.

How we deliver for you

We understand the pressures you’re under - tight timelines, complex risks, evolving infrastructure. We’re built to handle that, not just with technical depth but with processes, people, and speed that give you real certainty.

With RSA, you get a specialist partner who brings capacity, engineering, and faster quoting together. This will help you to deliver on high expectations, without compromise.

What we cover

Project Cargo insurance covers more than just physical loss or damage to materials in transit. It’s designed to support the full project lifecycle, from sourcing and shipment to on-site delivery and start-up delays. Our cover is split into two core parts:

1 - Cargo

Covers physical loss or damage to goods, materials or equipment essential to a project’s construction, operation, or maintenance, including during transit from manufacturer to site. Coverage follows international standards, with in-built risk management insight where needed.

2 - Advanced loss of profits and delay in start-up

This extension provides financial protection against business interruption caused by physical loss or damage to key items during transit. Helps mitigate costly delays in project delivery and start-up. Cover can also include increased working costs, fixed costs, and debt servicing.

Our appetite

We provide cover for a wide range of engineering-led construction projects globally, including (but not limited to):

  • Power generation plants
  • Wind farms
  • Gas and oil refineries
  • Water treatment facilities
  • Extraction of minerals, metals and ores
  • Rail infrastructure
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Civil and commercial property developments
