We've answered some of the questions we often get asked by brokers about our Pubs, Restaurants and Hotels cover.
Typical pub entertainment such as pool, darts, quizzes are acceptable at any frequency.
We will allow most live entertainment and private functions up to 4 times per week, if no entrance fee is charged. Higher frequency and fees are likely to make the business more of an entertainment venue which is not supported by the product.
We will consider providing temporary Property and Liability insurances for bouncy castles, discos and firework displays. This must be upon referral with full details of the event, and appropriate risk management information.
Exotic dancers/strippers/lap dancers are unacceptable.
Our product is suitable for businesses with a maximum of 4 premises, each with a maximum of 20 bedrooms.
Premises with more than 20 bedrooms can be considered on our Business Combined product.
We accept all types of listed buildings if the business is a tenant and not required to insure the building.
Grade 1, Grade A, Grade B Plus listed buildings, and those with a preservation order, are unacceptable if buildings insurance is required.
Our product is designed for businesses providing overnight accommodation.
Rental accommodation such as self-catering cottages, apartments, or holiday centres are unacceptable.
The product is suitable for businesses that are not licensed to operate between the hours of 1am and 4am. We will consider temporary extensions for one-off events, national celebrations, or holidays upon referral.
Marquees, gazebos and other temporary outdoor structures may be used when additional capacity is required at the premises.
We will consider providing temporary Property and Liability insurances for such outdoor structures. This must be upon referral with full details of the structure, and appropriate risk management information:
Risk assessment | Has a risk assessment been undertaken to cover the erection, dismantling, use and anchoring of the structure? |
Location | Is the structure positioned clear of any buildings, or any significant risks? For example, power lines, substations, flammable stores or car parks. |
Structure information | Can the fire performance rating of the structure be confirmed?Information on the fire performance should be available from the supplier/retailer. |
Competence | Has the tent structure been erected by a professional third party? |
Size/capacity | What is the size and capacity (people) of the structure? |
Emergency evacuation procedures | What emergency evacuation procedures have been established for dealing with any fire situation? |
Maintenance | Have regular procedures been established to check the structure? |
Overnight | Is the structure being used in hours of darkness and/or overnight? |
Electrics | Has any additional electrical equipment or lighting been installed? |
Smoking/e-cigarettes | Is smoking prohibited? |
Fire fighting equipment | Have portable Fire Extinguishing Appliances (FEA) been provided and maintained? |
Heating | Are there any heating arrangements in the structure? |
Cooking | Are there any cooking facilities in the structure? |
Wind speed | Is the structure exposed to high wind? For example, areas directly exposed to prevailing winds, hillsides or coastal areas. |
We will consider providing Property and Liability insurances for standard outdoor play equipment upon referral. Equipment should be under 2.5 metres high and sited on an appropriate surface. Equipment must be installed and maintained to BS EN 1176.
Indoor soft play facilities are unacceptable.
Collection and delivery is accepted as standard under the policy, provided it is by car or van.
We will accept work away from the premises that does not involve cooking at third party premises. For example, cold catering and buffets.
We will consider providing Liability insurances for cooking away from the premises. This must be upon referral, providing this does not exceed 20% of the total turnover. Businesses with turnover greater than 20% can be considered on our Business Combined product.
Outdoor catering from vans, trailers and similar is unacceptable.
